Oz!
I can't believe after our discussion of snakes that I came home from my Memorial Day Picnic outing to find a black snake (
Elaphe obsoleta ) on my front lawn!

He created some excitement to say the least. It was about 5-6 feet long but rather small around.
I was certain he wasn't dangerous, as we have had black snakes in our yard before.
An adult snake can be as large as 8 feet.
Maryland boasts 27 species and subspecies of snakes, only two of which are venomous. These are the timber rattlesnake and copperhead.
