At this years royal show there was a heritage section, and part of it was a group of blacksmiths.
It brought back some memories of metalwork at school and seeing how many of the old tools I could remember

Photography from Western Australia and beyond
WA Scale Model Expo, Cannington
One of the entries in this years model making competition, I decided it may look better in a photo taken in the Porongurups, rather than against the grey wall of the hall
Anyone any idea who this is?

Conostephium pendulum
I went for a ride last weekend to see what was in flower in the local bushland
I think I counted 20 different flowering plants
more than I expected for mid Winter
I took the opportunity to try out a different lighting set up
a home made soft box on my Pentax flash mounted on the camera
using an old 50mm lens mounted on a macro attachment
at the WA scale model expo
I removed the distracting background and added some “steel” sheeting
the dribble was part of the model
Dried everlasting flowers, living (hmm ok they are dead I guess) upto their name. Picked around 6 to 8 years ago from my garden

the Australia day Perth Criterion
Using my old manual f1.4 50mm Pentax lens on the K10D, set up to use focus trap,
so I can keep the shutter pressed, but the camera won’t shoot until it has focus
(hopefully on the subject)
a macro of a butterfly wing
I wish I could find out what kind it is
I took this using my 50mm lens and holding it reversed against a 2x converter, with no glass in it, that was mounted on my Pentax K10D. Using daylight coming through a window.
to improve it i should buy a reversing ring instead of holding the lens to the camera
and a flash may be better than daylight
seeing as the butterfly was deceased, I can have another go 🙂
