and the EH Holden car club of WA put on a car show “birthday party” on the South Perth foreshore, it also included the earlier model EJ cars too

one of the most popular Holdens, and I am not saying that because I have one 🙂

Peacock with tail open

It is that time of year again at Caversham wildlife park, inside Whiteman park. The male peacocks are showing off.

as no females were around I am not sure if he was showing off for us, or trying to keep two, totally unimpressed, emus at bay.

Unfortunately I was way to close for my 300mm lens, so I snapped 6 photos, 3 across and 2 up with the though of stitching them together. Which sounded like a good idea at the time.

Using Microsoft Ice the end result wasnt too bad, even though the peacock was moving, so a little judicious editing, cut and pasting, I ended up with a 21 megapixel image.

Was it worth it.

Autumn/Fall

Whilst the rest of the world was having spring, we were having Autumn. On top of that Native trees around here do not do the Autumn thing of losing their leaves, they are the same colour all year round, some trees may flower in Autumn which makes them different. So on my way home from work I notices  a Japanese maple street tree was doing the Autumn thing and one evening I managed to get back before all the leaves were gone and get an “Autumn” photo

(note the green leaves in the background)

White tailed black cockatoo

A white tailed black cockatoo feasting on a firewood banksia cone whilst sitting on my bull banksia in Winter

I counted about 20 of them going through my trees, pruning as they went.

I picked up some banksia flowers they snipped off and put them in a vase

They do a a fair amount of damage, but gee it is worth it just to watch them 🙂

I tried focus pulling, changing focus with the shutter open on a long exposure
but ended up sandwiching two photos together to get this result

Silas as Orton effect

Silas Orton EffectMy attempt at the Orton effect, an effect developed by Michael Orton in an attempt to imitate watercolour painting with photography. Initially it was done using multiple slides sandwiched on top of each other. Digital has made similar effects easier and this is mine, done in GIMP.

Did it work?
