elephant seal panorama

an elephant seal that spent a few day on the sand at Sorrento Beach (Perth)
a young adult or teenager catching a bit of sunshine, but not a lot of peace and quiet
a few thousand people showed up to see what is a very infrequent visitor to our shores

this is a 6 photo stitch taken with the Pentax 300mm f4 lens
the full size image is 12000 x 3000 pixels

elephant seal

for some reason a sub adult Southern elephant seal has decided to make Sorrento beach, Perth, its home for a while. They, as far as I know, have never come to Perth before, although we do get other seals and sea lions. Tasmania I think is a close as they normally get

As you can see it has become quite the celebrity

Peacock with tail open

It is that time of year again at Caversham wildlife park, inside Whiteman park. The male peacocks are showing off.

as no females were around I am not sure if he was showing off for us, or trying to keep two, totally unimpressed, emus at bay.

Unfortunately I was way to close for my 300mm lens, so I snapped 6 photos, 3 across and 2 up with the though of stitching them together. Which sounded like a good idea at the time.

Using Microsoft Ice the end result wasnt too bad, even though the peacock was moving, so a little judicious editing, cut and pasting, I ended up with a 21 megapixel image.

Was it worth it.

50th anniversary of the EH Holden car

It is Kings Parks 50th year of the wildflower festival, it also the 50th anniversary of the EH Holden car
so with the help of the EH club in WA Kings park combined the 2 anniversaries by turning 2 old EHs into…………

flower pots, sigh

(my wife suggested I do it with my EH, she was joking, i think, hope)

I managed to get a photo showing the character of one of the cars without having to many of the flowers, trying to give it the abandoned in the bush look.
I tried to be different from most others that were taking shots with the flowers too
this is the rear of one of the cars

three photos stitched with microsoft ice

Autumn/Fall

Whilst the rest of the world was having spring, we were having Autumn. On top of that Native trees around here do not do the Autumn thing of losing their leaves, they are the same colour all year round, some trees may flower in Autumn which makes them different. So on my way home from work I notices  a Japanese maple street tree was doing the Autumn thing and one evening I managed to get back before all the leaves were gone and get an “Autumn” photo

(note the green leaves in the background)
